About EN8D bright bars
EN8D is the most widely used medium carbon engineering steel in India. With roughly 0.40–0.45% carbon it offers good tensile strength in the drawn condition and responds to hardening & tempering and induction or flame hardening. Cold drawing improves strength, size accuracy and surface finish, so bars go straight onto the lathe.

Applications
- Shafts, axles, spindles and pins
- High-tensile bolts, studs and fasteners
- Gears, couplings and sprockets
- Induction-hardened parts and hydraulic rods (base material)
Frequently asked questions
Is EN8D the same as 1045 and C45?
Close equivalents — British, American and European designations of medium carbon steel with roughly 0.40–0.50% carbon.
EN8D or EN8M?
EN8M is the free-machining version (AISI 1144, 44SMn28) and machines much faster. EN8D is preferred where welding or uniform toughness matters. See EN8M →
